Application:
- In pharmaceutical synthesis of antibiotics for diastereoselective reduction of hydroxyketones to syn 1,3-diols.
- In fine organic synthesis to get boronic acid ether from organolithium agents.
- Reduce b,d-diketo esters to b,d-dihydroxy esters without reduction of a conjugated olefinic double bond.
- Production of Diethyl(3-pyridyl)borane – a reagent for Suzuki coupling reaction, palladium-catalyzed amination reactions, intramolecular Heck reactions, etc.
- Used in conjunction with sodium borohydride in the diastereoselective reduction of β-hydroxyketones. This method is used in the synthesis of statins.
- Reduction of β,δ-diketoesters to β,δ-dihydroxyesters without recovery of a conjugated olefinic double bond.
